This retail center required the retrofitting of the potable water and fire sprinkler system with code-compliant backflow protection. The facility’s common water supply was located in the service entrance area within the building. A common feed attached to the municipal water supply. The potable water was retrofitted with a 2″ reduced pressure backflow preventer. The fire sprinkler system was also fitted with an 4″ reduced pressure detector assembly. Separate isolation devices were provided for both backflow preventers.

This co-ed housing facility required the retrofitting of code-compliant backflow protection to the potable water and fire sprinkler system. This project required the installation of a 6″ reduced pressure detector assembly to the fire sprinkler system and duplex 3/4″ reduced pressure backflow devices on the potable water supply. The devices were installed at the exterior of the facility in a code-compliant insulated, heated enclosure for freeze protection common in this location. Special accommodations were provided for a limited interruption of potable service (less than 1 hour) for this retrofit.
