Just like the parts in any mechanical system, backflow assemblies and devices have parts that can break down and wear out. If these devices are not working properly, it can allow contaminated water to re-enter the public water distribution system. Contaminated water can lead to illness and in some cases death. Therefore, the State of West Virginia Department of Health and Human Services Bureau for Public Health, under Title 64 Legislative Rule, Series 15, Cross Connection Control and Backflow Prevention regulations require backflow device testing to help ensure the safety of our drinking water.
